ethylene carbonate synthesis from ethylene oxide in aqueous solution and CO2 | ethylene oxide (EO) was studied using self-developed NY-2 catalyst. Reaction properties of aqueous solution and CO2 for the preparation of ethylene carbonate (EC). The orthogonal experiment was designed to determine the main factors affecting the conversion of EO and the selectivity of EC. The effects of the amount of solvent EC, reaction temperature, reaction pressure and catalyst dosage on the synthesis reaction were discussed. The experimental results show that n(H2O)∶ n(EO) is the most important factor affecting the conversion of EO, and temperature and n(H2O)∶ n(EO) are the most important factors affecting the selectivity of EC; the optimum conditions of the synthesis reaction were determined by using NY-2 catalyst and EC as solvent: reaction temperature 100~120 ℃, reaction pressure 3.0~4.0 MPa, catalyst mass fraction 2%,n(H2O): n(EO)= 1: 2,n(EC): n(EO)= 5. Under these conditions, the conversion of EO reached more than 97.62%, and the selectivity of EC reached about 92.55%.
